Chair of Women’s Studies

The «Santa Teresa de Jesús» Chair of Women’s Studies, at the «Santa Teresa de Jesús» Catholic University of Ávila, is a place oriented towards the study, research, training and outreach of studies, works and scientific contributions about women. It is a chair of studies because it aims to investigate, from various disciplines, the current status of women, to strengthen feminine aspects in our culture and to propose improvements to social deficiencies.
The Chair is inspired by an objective, integrating and harmonious personal understanding of women, and aims to promote a positive vision and behaviour of reciprocal cooperation between women and the realities that surround them, especially in the family, cultural, educational, health, labor and social fields.
The work of the Chair is oriented in an interdisciplinary way, covering Anthropology, Ethics, History, Art, Sociology, Health Sciences, Pedagogy, Literature, Theology, Law and Economics.

  • To promote research, teaching activities and training courses for/about women
  • To spread an appropriate cultural feminism, which allows a positive understanding of femininity in relation to men, the family, motherhood, the world of work and culture, as well as in the legal field
  • To promote equal opportunities in professional and working careers that facilitate the integral promotion of women within law and social relations
  • To encourage violence prevention studies within young people
  • To research and publish studies in areas of social interest related to the theme of equality: violence against women, planning and implementation of equality policies, women's political leadership, the relationship between women and the working environment, and the impact of both education and the media on the knowledge and dissemination of the idea of equality
  • To reflect on the historical, cultural or social contribution of relevant women in different fields, through research and publication of interdisciplinary studies or from different disciplines.
  • To illuminate and offer guidelines and orientations to the labor and educational concerns and interests of women in the university field.
  • To contribute to the creation of a platform to promote collaboration between different institutions, public or private, that have an impact on the integral promotion of women and equal opportunities in the university or the labor market
